D-Day was the invasion of Omaha Beach in the city of Normandy, France. The United States participated in what was known as “Operation Overlord” to liberate the French from the Germans. General Dwight Eisenhower sent a bombardment of troops (over 100,000) to Omaha beach. The battle was incredibly fierce and difficult. Over 10,000 casualties occurred during D-Day.
